Delgato_and_alou_2The New York Mets have two key veterans ailing in Carlos Delgado and Moises Alou.  Delgado has a bad right hip and the Mets are looking for a backup first baseman in case he ends up spending a significant amount of time on the disabled list.  LF Moises Alou is scheduled to undergo surgery to repair a hernia on Thursday and won’t be back in the Mets lineup until May at the earliest.  At this rate the Mets will need to make some moves to add some quality depth to their bench.  Maybe General Manager Omar Minaya can talk Shawn Green out of his retirement to help the ailing Mets.

Mets
Oscar Minaya
has assembled one heck of a  team in the big apple.  With
David Wright, Jose Reyes and Carlos Beltran the Mets have 3 superstars.
Then throw in Moises Alou, Luis Castillo and Carlos Delgado, and you
have 3 veterans that can still play at a very respectable level.  Then
tack on two former Nationals in Ryah Church and Brian Schneider at RF
and C respectively.

The rotation just got a whole lot better with
the addition of Johan Santana.  He should be in contention for the Cy
Young and 20 wins.  Pedro Martinez, John Maine and Oliver Perez will
follow Santana in the rotation.  The 5th start may be Orlando Hernandez
if he can stay healthy.
The bullpen is anchored by veteran lefty Billy Wagner.  He’s going to have the chance to get a lot of saves this season.

The Mets have to be the favorite in the NL East despite last year’s disastrous
collapse in September.  This lineup and rotation has the potential to
make it to the Fall Classic.
